Innocence awoke to the tropical sun beating down on her face. She yawned, and threw back the covers on her massive four poster bed. Out of instinct she looked to the other side of the bed, only to realize that it was, as it always had been, unoccupied.

Vaguely she recalled where she was. It had been a long time since she had visited Sheris, since she had left Michael in charge of things in her absence, but she decided that she shouldn’t continue her grieving and return to her throne.

The Coronation date was drawing near, and Innocence wanted to be prepared. In her “normal” life back in Canada, she was busy making a living for herself, while trying to get ready for college and doing her absolute best to maintain a relationship with the man of her dreams. Everything was perfect. But when she came to Sheris, she had to abandon everything that she loved and desired briefly while she did her best to maintain peace over the tiny country over which she ruled. It was a harsh reality, one that only those closest to her would believe, yet one that she kept secret and hidden away from the ones that should know the most.

There was a knock on the door, and as she covered herself in a black silk robe, she answered the knock with one mere word. Michael tentatively opened the door, always afraid to catch his friend in a revealing position, but was relieved to see her sitting down, staring out of one of the gaping windows.

“Innocence? Is everything alright?” he asked. Something seemed to be troubling her.

“Yeah…I’m ok, Michael. Just….”

Michael sat down. He knew exactly what was going through the red-head’s mind. “It’s him, isn’t it?”

She nodded silently, and continued to stare out into the wilderness, out into the rising sun. Her castle was the most magnificent man-made structure on the island, next to the Temple of the Megami, yet for some reason, during the last year or so since her adoptive parents’ and sisters’ deaths, she had lost interest in the beauty of the edifice.

“He’ll come.” Amon reassured her, “I did.”

Innocence smiled weakly. “You’re right. The island does seem to attract those people that mean the most to us, the people that we need. I should know that by now. After all, I’ve been here for nine years.”

Innocence, like at least a third of the people on Sheris, not excluding Michael, was one of many marooned people on the island. Because of a prophecy, she had been taken in by the King and Queen and was raised as one of three Princesses. As the other two Princesses grew of age and were able to choose their own ways, Innocence, as was her given name on Sheris, was trained in the way of the Megami, and forced to become sole heir to the throne of Sheris. She had no choice on her life path.

Innocence’s real name was Robbyn Anne. Her closest friends tended to call her Robby, or Little Robbyn, but on Sheris, her best friend, Michael, chose to call her by her royal name, Innocence. Innocence had no idea why her adoptive parents chose that name for her, since she was far from innocent, but accepted it as her own all the same. After all, it seemed like the only real thing from her parents that she had left.

“Robby?” Michael spoke. This sudden change in name use startled her. “Robby, the coronation is only a few days away, are you sure you’re going to be ready?”

“Of course I am, Michael. I didn’t spend all those years in that hut on the beach for nothing, now did I?” Innocence realized that she couldn’t sit and wish for her lover to be there with her, that she had to move on; she had to fulfill her family’s wishes and be the ruler they all knew she could be. In less than a fortnight, she would cease to be merely a Princess and be crowned Queen of Sheris.  Her only wish was that the man that she loved be there, being crowned King alongside her.

Innocence knew that this wouldn’t happen. A traditional courtship on Sheris lasted anywhere from a few months to a few years, depending largely on status and time, and because of these factors, it would take many years for the people of Sheris to accept the man that Innocence had chosen as her King.

Many of her advisors and friends told her how suited she was to sit in the place of both King and Queen. She was well trained in diplomatic measures, as well as war, she was a healer and a hunter, she was a mediator and a warrior, she was spiritual and logical, and, they said, above all, she was beautiful. To the people of Sheris, a beautiful Queen meant prosperity and good fortune, peace and love. Megami, the guardian dragon that kept watch over all of Sheris, was said to be the most beautiful Queen that Sheris had ever had. Innocence believed every word of it, there were images of Megami scattered throughout the castle, and the temple, which Innocence sometimes prayed at, was said to pale in comparison to the Dragon herself.

Innocence soon lost herself in memories of that one fateful day, the day that her eldest sister was lost.

“Please! Innocence, you’re the only one that can open it!”

“Yune-chan…I don’t think I can…”

Yune-Aki looked over at her littlest sister, a girl of 11, a girl that she loved more than her own life. “Innocence…you can do it, I know you can. I’ve seen what you can do. Just remember that I’m doing this to help you.”

“But…Yune-chan…”

Yune-Aki took her little sisters hand in hers. “I promise, Little Robbyn, that I won’t do anything bad with the Diamond. I just want to end this for you. They’re pushing you too hard, and though I want to see you Queen as much as they do, I don’t think that they should be doing that to you.”

Innocence stared up o her big sister. Yune-Aki was 15, much older than Innocence, and much wiser, nearly a woman in body and age. Surely she was right.

“Okay, Yune-chan. But no one can know. We aren’t supposed to be here, remember? Megami may be angry already.”

Yune-Aki was shocked, how could they hold back that one little tidbit of information from her sister, the most important thing of all?

“The truth is, Innocence, you’re Megami’s real daughter, and I think she’d be happy to see you.”

Innocence stared wide eyed at her sister. “It’s not me who’s Megami’s daughter, it’s the Chosen One of Yosei.”

Yune-Aki shook her head. “You’re right. Now let’s do this before it gets dark and Momma sends someone out to find us.

Innocence nodded, and concentrated all her magic on the door in front of her. It swung open for the little Princesses.

The inside was magnificent, and Innocence was so incredibly happy that she gave in to her sister’s plan. She wasn’t supposed to see the temple yet, not until she was Queen, but this made her delighted.

Suddenly, there was an ominous feeling all around, and Innocence was afraid.

“Yune-chan…Yune, I think we’d better get out of here…”

“What do you mean, Innocence? Everything’s fine!”

“Yune, we’ve got to go!” Innocence grabbed the sleeve of her sister’s green dress and saw in Yune-Aki’s eyes that she wouldn’t leave until she got what she came for.

“You go, I’ll stay and if I get caught, I’ll take all the blame. I love you, Innocence.”

“Yune…I love you too…”

“Go! Now!”

Innocence left, unaware that she may never she the kindness of her eldest sister ever again.
Hey all! Here's the beginning of Princess of Sheris, and since I've been writing tidbits here and there, I'm just going to post some random things once in a while, get opinions on how I can improve, and eventually put it all together. So you'll basically get the entirety of the story before it's all together. LOL!

I will put up a preview image once I make one of good quality, coloured and everything.

Princess of Sheris (C) Robbyn Anne Lysne

Oh, and just so you know, Robbyn Anne is actually my pen name. And Princess of Sheris, if I ever publish it, will be under a Japanese pen name of mine, my email actually. LOL! It's my other stuff that would be under Robbyn Anne Lysne, and simply because a while ago, I decided to use my pen name in the story before it was my pen name, it's staying. So there. The character isn't me, but a lot like me, and there are characters based on people I know. Michael is actually based on one of my closest male friends, besides Duncan, and yeah...I do take a lot of my experience and put it in, but now that I'm rewriting it, I think I'll concentrate more on Sheris.
